My gf is taking care of my cat for a short trip. The cat isn’t super familiar with her, but the cat has spend time with her in the past. I just received a call from her demanding I train my cat better, as earlier when she was cooking and the cat was sniffing the food, she picked him up to bring him away, and when she did he hissed at her and tried to scratch to break free. Im grateful that she prevented him from eating anything he shouldn’t have, but then she said I had to train my cat better because it shouldn’t be hissing everytime someone tries to touch him. I tried to explain that cats have boundaries and you have to respect them and can’t be surprised if they react to you crossing those boundaries negatively. She then brought up our friends cats who are a lot more chill as well as how her dog is well trained and said I’m not making a great enough effort to train my cat. It’s my first time raising a cat, so I’m not completely sure if it’s realistic to make them entirely docile, but I read online/heard from fellow owners that cats are naturally pretty defensive of their boundaries and trying to change that is extremely difficult. Do you guys think this is a reasonable demand?
