This is going to sound like a first world problem but here it is

My cat loves to play fetch. The problem is that most of the time I am sitting in the couch and she drops the item at the foot of the couch

What I would like to teach her is to bring the item up into my lap. This is purely so I don’t have to keep bending over (but it also means I can keep going with her for longer!)

Any advice on how I can get her to bring the toy to my lap on the couch instead of the foot of the couch?
