I honestly don’t know if I’m overthinking this or if this is actually as weird as it feels.
I’ve been in the process for a Project Manager role for months now. Went through a recruiter screen, three rounds of interviews, and then they brought me onsite to meet the team and tour the office. Everything felt great very relaxed and was told it wasn’t an interview and honestly felt like I’m their top choice.
After that, recruiter calls next day and had me complete a full background check, credit check, and asked for references. And then the wonderlic…(cognitive + personality) AFTER all of that.
Thankfully my BGC, credit report came back clean the next day. But from what I’ve seen, companies usually use those tests at the beginning to filter people out, not at the very end after investing all this time and money.
Now I’m sitting here stressing that I might not have done great on the cognitive portion (ran out of time, guessed on some math), and wondering if they could actually reject me at this stage because of that.
It just feels backwards. Like why run someone through the entire process, do background checks and references, and THEN decide based on a test if that’s even a thing unless it’s an HR compliance (formality finish paperwork) deal.
Has anyone actually seen this happen? Like getting all the way to the end and then losing the offer because of something like a Wonderlic?
Trying to stay sane here because this process has already been a marathon.
