Hey everyone, I’m looking for some perspective on a frustrating hiring situation for a summer internship.

Almost two weeks ago, I had a screening interview with a recruiter for a role that is a couple of states away. I’m fully willing to relocate and I thought the screening went really well—he gave me the start date, the hourly rate, and I also let him know I met all the technical requirements. He told me to email him my resume directly so he could pass it to the interviewers, but said I also needed to apply through the official portal once he posted it by the weekend. He also mentioned they usually interview about three people for the role.

The weekend came, and it wasn’t posted. I waited exactly one week from the initial screening interview to follow up. He emailed me back the next day saying they were still working on it but that it should be up before the weekend.

I haven’t responded to that email but, it’s now Monday and it is still not published. I’m getting nervous because I feel strongly about this company, but it’s now approaching mid-April and I need to lock in my summer plans. My questions is, is it Is it common for recruiters to give specific dates and rates but then stall for two weeks on the actual posting? What are the chances of him eventually saying, “Sorry, we’ve decided not to move forward with the internship after all,” or just ghosting me completely? Or is he benching me while he looks for other candidates internally before opening it to the public? How should I proceed? Should I respond to his last email today just to say “no worries,” or does that take the pressure off him too much? Any advice would be appreciated!
