This is Simon, he has only been in my care for a year after years of neglect. He is guessed to be around 12 or 13 years old. His age has never stopped him from having energy, personality, lots of love, and a big appetite! Until today. I’m at a loss.

Since December, he has been dealing with intense sneezing and reverse sneezing fits. They weren’t too bad at first but they got to be quite frequent, so I brought him into the vet who put him on Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium tablets for a week. It seemed to go away for a little while until it came back more intense and frequent but this time with clear globs of snot coming out of his left nostril. We also seemed to notice my other cat beginning to sneeze as well but with no mucus. Worth noting, both of these times his demeanor, appetite, and energy had stayed normal. We brought both my kitties in and this time the vet put them on Doxycycline liquid for a week. He had a really hard time ingesting the liquid but we pushed through.

That was about a month ago. His sneezing seemed to decrease again until this week I noticed he started again, but he seemed okay. But, today he didn’t come for his wet food. Which isn’t too out of the ordinary since he likes to sleep sometimes so I waited to give it to him later. When I tried again he didn’t come out and was staying in the closet. I brought him out and he only took two bites and stopped, not like him at all. I also noticed mucus dripping from his nose again but this time from both nostrils and he was almost wheezing a little. The wheezing has subsided, but I can tell he’s moving differently and just doesn’t seem like himself. This is very different from the other times this sneezing snotty nose has come back. Something is off, but I don’t know if I trust my vet enough to take me seriously again. I worry she’s just going to blow me off again and just prescribe meds again for me to put him through hell again trying to give them to him (cause he HATES pills and liquid meds) and have me pay a ton of money for it to just come back again. I don’t know what to do, and I’ve lost so much money trying to get him better again and I’m running out of options. Has this happened to anyone with their senior cat? Any one have any idea what direction I should go or do?
