The celebration was ruined and turned into a nightmare. As reported by Unifoot on social media a few days ago, a young player from the PSG Academy, a private organization independent of the Parisian club, who was participating in the U15 international soccer tournament in Porto, Portugal, was violently attacked by other participants at the event.
According to the outlet, young players from the Parisian team were subjected to racist insults and monkey chants from an opposing team and even from some parents.
It was while defending his teammates that 13-year-old Armand, who plays for the Montrouge club, was attacked. He was then taken to a hospital in Porto. Initial examinations revealed that his nose had been broken as a result of the blows to his face.
“We love football, but we’ve never seen racism like this. He tried to protect his friend, and he ended up in the ER. The kids are all in shock.”
His mother said.
“The children are all shocked”
On Sunday evening, the Montrouge club took to social media to express its support for its young player, his family, “as well as all the young players affected by this situation,” and voiced “its deepest outrage and strongest condemnation of the acts of racism and violence that occurred during an international tournament.”
“Our young player Armand, who courageously stood up for a teammate who was the victim of racist remarks and monkey chants, was assaulted and taken to the hospital following this incident,” the statement continues, accompanied by a photo of Armand. These events are deeply shocking and run counter to the fundamental values of sportsmanship, respect, and community that we uphold every day within our club. ”
“Racist remarks and monkey chants”
“The courage he showed in defending a teammate demonstrates just how much of an exemplary player Armand is, full of values,” the club states in an Instagram story. “Racism and violence have no place in sports or society. Soccer must remain a space for education, respect, and brotherhood.”
The club also thanks “the president of Paris Saint-Germain” for “the support shown to our young player from Montrouge.” “Armand, you’re a hero!!!” the statement concludes.
According to our sources, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi reportedly called Armand and his family personally to express his support and invited them to an upcoming PSG match at the Parc des Princes.
