Carlos Bernegger will take over as interim head coach until the end of the current season.
At the same time, FC Zurich is setting the course for the upcoming season early on: Marcel Koller will become the new head coach starting with the 2026/2027 season. He will be able to take up his duties on June 1, 2026.
With Marcel Koller, FC Zurich is gaining one of the most experienced and successful coaches in Swiss and international soccer. During his coaching career, he won league titles with FC St. Gallen 1879 and Grasshopper Club Zurich, as well as the Swiss Cup with FC Basel 1893. In the Bundesliga, he coached 1. FC Köln and VfL Bochum, and for six years he led the Austrian national team, which he guided to the UEFA European Championship in 2016.
Most recently, Koller was with the Egyptian club Al Ahly (2022–2025), where he won several titles as well as the African Champions League twice. He also led Al Ahly to a third-place finish at the Club World Cup in 2023.

FC Zurich is confident that this decision sets the right course for a stable and successful sporting future. FC Zurich warmly welcomes Marcel Koller and looks forward to working with him in the future.
