I was recently rehired at my old company after being away for a few years, however different location and different role. The recruitment process was going smoothly at first. But ever since I signed the offer letter, it’s been a mess. There’s been total radio silence. No confirmed start date, no onboarding, nothing.

I tried emailing the internal recruiter, only to get an automated reply saying they’ve left the company. I then emailed a generic email address for the company. Although this mailbox doesn’t deal with HR queries, someone there was helpful enough to pass it on, and eventually I got a call from someone trying to figure out what was going on.

This person thought I was in the process of applying for the role. I told them I’ve literally got the job! I’ve signed the offer and accepted it.

In the end, they confirmed a start date. I asked what time and who do I ask for on the first day? They weren’t sure. It hadn’t been decided which team I was going into. Wouldn’t they know which team was short staffed before they advertised the position?

It’s a big organisation, so I feel like I’m just going to walk in and no one will know what to do with me.

Was supposed to receive onboarding information shortly after the call. No surprises, it never came.
