So last year I took in a dumped cat who ended up being pregnant, I fostered the kittens and once they were old enough got them new homes, except one I wanted to keep.
Well, fast forward to now, the son, Tony, is like twice the size of his mama, Jiji. He tries to play with her, but she’s not very playful to begin with, but he also plays to rough. It started off as low growls, then hisses, now she straight up starts yowling at him and he keeps persisting.
I try to break them up, I know it sounds silly but I know cats communicate boundaries by hissing so I’ve started hissing at him when he starts to get too rough, but that doesn’t seem to stop it from happening in the first place. When I hiss at him, he goes into ‘apology’ mode and walks away and flops on his side for a few minutes, but if he’s still feeling playful, he’ll try again.
No matter how much Jiji yowls at him to stop, he won’t… and idk if what I’m doing is actually working and will just take time, and what about when I’m not around? Any advice is great appreciated
