Hello! Writing this post because I’m kind of at my wits end with my cat and don’t really know where else to go for advice.

I rescued a kitty a few months ago, she’s a 1.5 year old female calico (spayed) that had been living outside in someone’s backyard before I adopted her and made her a fully indoor cat. She was definitely shy and timid the first few weeks and has now come out of her shell, which has been both good and bad… She gets the most insane zoomies every single night from about 2-4am, and not only is it starting to impact my quality of life/sleep but the downstairs neighbor in my apartment has started to complain and threaten to report the noise to my landlord. We have wood floors so the sound of her running and jumping around is quite loud, and yes it’s annoying for me but I’m seriously concerned about my lease being terminated because she is being so disruptive during what I would consider to be firm quiet hours in an apartment building.

The difficult part is I live alone in a small studio, so I can’t close a door and confine her to a space at night, she’s just out in the open. I’ve tried things like a box fan and noise cancelling headphones but they don’t work because she’s literally like sprinting around directly under the bed where I’m sleeping. I also work 8-5 in office every day and I’ve tried leaving things like puzzle feeders and motion activated toys out for her to stay entertained during the day, but she winds up just sleeping most of the time and then of course wanting to then be awake all night. I play with her right before we go to bed around 9/9:30 pm which calms her for a bit, and then she gets crazy in the middle of the night.

I’ve seen a lot of people say that routine is important to cats but this is something we’ve struggled with. She never wants to eat at a consistent time so it’s hard getting her into the process of playing -> eating -> bedtime. I’ve tried treats that are supposed to have some sort of calming supplement as well as the feliway spray/diffusers, but literally nothing is working.

Can I hope that eventually she will start to adapt to my routine and sleep through the night? Or is there anything I can do to calm her that I have not tried? Again I stress that my main concern is noise complaints from others in my building, this is not just me complaining about her behavior because it is disruptive to me.

TYIA!!!
