Hi! I’m looking for advice on flea prevention/maintenance. I live in Southern California, and this is my second year with my cat. Fleas already seem to be popping up again, which is stressing me out after dealing with a really bad infestation last summer that lasted 2–3 months.

For context: my cat is on monthly topical flea medication (OTC brands from PetSmart/Petco, nothing prescription-strength). I’m pretty consistent with it. I also treated my carpets about a month ago, vacuum every other day (especially near doors), and brush/comb her 2–3 times a week to check for fleas. She’s also only indoor! I never ever let her outside.

Despite all this, I saw two fleas today—one on me and one on her—which has me worried things are starting early again. I know living in a warm climate makes fleas harder to avoid, but I’m wondering if there are stronger or more effective options out there.

Are there better brands (including prescription options) or additional steps I should be taking alongside topical treatments? I’m willing to spend the money, I just really want to avoid another miserable flea-filled summer. 😩
