So, I have 5 cats, all adopted over a 3 year period, all about 2-5 years old… I take extra care to try and keep a constant quality kibble supply, and issue their canned food regularly to all of them equally… however, I started making an effort to practice randomized conscious favoritism.
Cats are simple, they do like equal treatment, but they also know and aplreciate what it means to be spoiled.
Sometimes, shaking the treat box and then issuing treats to all 5 is a bit of a runaround, so I started randomly offering them separate treat sessions, trying to make it seem like I’m sneaking them something extra special just for them.
Seems simple, but bonding/trust has been a bit slow on these cats due to their competitive nature, and all having trauma from before their adoption. I have to say, the shyer ones have *DEFINITELY* responded positively, approach more freely, and cuddle harder.
The system works! 🐈
