I have two neutered male cats at home. One is 13 years old and the other is 8.
We adopted a 5-month-old kitten. We’ve had her for 2 weeks and she’s staying in my room.
I saw that to introduce a new cat to the family, it needs to be isolated from the other cats for a few weeks/months.
However, my family didn’t want to follow this strictly.
And after 10 days they let the kitten out and she ended up being attacked by the 8-year-old cat. (She was taken to the vet and treated)
Now, the 8-year-old cat keeps appearing at my bedroom window watching her, trying to get in and sometimes trying to attack her through the window. (It’s always closed)
The kitten doesn’t seem scared, she seems to want to play (just like when they let her out in the house and she ended up being attacked…)
I’m confused about how to proceed with this.
The little research I’ve done suggests I should close the curtains so the cats can’t see each other. (Which I’ve done a few times)
But I keep thinking maybe it’s better for them to see each other through the glass…and maybe get used to each other that way?
Honestly, I don’t know what to do.
My 13-year-old cat has absolutely no interest in seeing her through the window.
I’ve already let the two older cats into the room (without the kitten) to get used to her scent.
I’ve thought about buying those…pheromones? The ones that calm cats.
Please help me.
**Now the 8-year-old is sitting on the windowsill and seems a lot calmer than the last times. Is this a sign that they’re improving…?** In the picture, the black one is the kitten
