Maharlika missed out on the Championship Round as they ended their Round 2 with a limp 6-0 thrashing courtesy of Manila Digger.
Maharlika actually had the better of the opening exchanges, but poor finishing and the acrobatics of Mike Asong kept them out. Manila Digger punished them on the counter, with the ever-brilliant Modou Manneh at the heart of everything as they shocked Coach Moon’s side by bagging three before the break.
Maharlika came out fighting in the second half, but still were unable to capitalise on their many chances. Instead, Digger once against gave the 7th place side a lesson in finishing, as Gai added two to his tally before Nishioka finished the game late on to hand Maharlika their biggest defeat of the season.
Football is so often a game of moments, and this is such a prime example. Despite regularly going close, Maharlika were far too wayward in their shooting and Mike Asong was brilliant in goal.
Manila Digger will now look to their title charge, whilst Maharlika will look to set some personal records in the Classification Round.
