Need some advice on our current cat situation since we are discussing the possibility of re-homing our kitten due to his temperament. We rescued him off of a road last November and he is estimated to be about 6.5 months old currently. We have already had him neutered and microchipped. From day one, he was simultaneously very loving and friendly and VERY play aggressive. His play aggression has calmed down a bit but he is still basically unpettable about 80% of the time due to him immediately jumping to play mode and biting. This is less an issue for us as the bites usually aren’t hard an he stopped using his claws, but he terrorizes our 15 year old female and cannot be in the same space as our 14 year old female due to her fear and aggression towards him. We keep him downstairs in our finished basement most of the time to keep them all separated but we let him up and lock up the 14 year old in our bedroom to try to get him more socialized. He has never once shown our 15 year old cat any affection and will jump on her biting EVERY time he gets close. I don’t think he’s biting hard as he’s just playing but she has already received a tail injury due to this play and she is not receptive to it at all. He really is a sweet cat when he’s not in play mode but we feel bad about keeping him locked downstairs and also for our older cats. We are hoping he will calm down after a year or so but we have no experience with anything like this as our other cats never had this much playful energy as kittens. Has anyone dealt with a situation like this before? Is there a reasonable chance he calms down and starts to interact normally with the other cats? We don’t want to re-home him but if it’s a decision between him and our older girls we have to choose them. Thanks for any advice
