Hi,
I took in a stray cat from one of the colonies that I helped feed. One of the ladies in our group noticed he had a puncture wound on his cheek. Brought him to the vet and got that treated. While recovering, she noticed that he was quite friendly and not feral. Vets estimate he’s about 7 to 8 years old. He had previously lived with this cat colony for at least 4 years. I volunteered to house him a few days to see how he would adjust to indoor life. We suspect he was a house cat at some point, but may have ran away from home or abandoned. I have him set up in my bathroom. He has a cat house, litter box, dry food, wet food, water. I’ve only had them for a night. He did eat his wet food and use his litter box overnight. I’m giving him time and space to adjust. He does allow for small pets on his head. He doesn’t hiss or scratch. He is not vocal at all. I only heard him meow a few times on the car ride home However, he stays in this position in his house. I have the door shut to give him privacy. I have soft lighting in the bathroom, that way he can see. Is there anything else I can do to help him adjust? This is my first time taking in a stray. My cats that I have were adopted from the shelter.
