I have a ridiculously long haired double coated kurilian bobtail. I’ve had him for about a year. When I adopted him, he was shaved. The previous owners seemingly kept him always shaved because they didn’t want to deal with his coat. I didn’t know how much hair he would have, but it’s insane! It’s been a year and it feels like his coat is still getting longer.

I’ve been brushing him since the start and he’s never really seemed to have an issue with it. I even felt like he liked it for a while. It all changed with his spring shedding. With him being extremely long haired, double coated and prone to matting, I had to brush him a lot. At first he was fine with it but as weeks went on he started fighting me when I brought out the brush. I tried giving him treats while brushing to help but it didn’t work. And now, after spring shedding is seemingly done for him, he wont let me brush him anymore. He runs away and hides when he hears the brush and wont come out even if I bring out treats.

I don’t know what to do anymore. I need to brush him at least once a week so stop him from getting mats but he doesn’t trust me/the brush anymore. Help
