So for me I have been in, well, see sub reddit, since medical seperation from the Navy back in November of 2024. Since then it’s sucked, hard. Hundreds of applications and no income until July of 2025 where finally I get an interview. Interview goes well, I move states to work said job for a couple months before no other reason but your not a good fit. Feel sorry for myself, and go back to he dreaded application after application. Finally decide this isn’t working. Do some reflection and go visit my parents from the state I moved from. After talking and deciding what I could see as a career instead of just a jobs a job, apply to schools.
So now I’m going to school in the Fall for my ASE certification but that still doesn’t solve the job situation. So what is the best choice? I cold called dealerships and explained my plan of going to school and finding a summer friendly position to work in between the school years and get around the scene of cars more often, even if its not in the garage. It worked, I’m now going to school with a job as a parts runner for a dealership which is more than happy to work with my school schedule and take me on as a technician after I’m done with my 2years.
TLDR: Medically separated from the Navy, Nov 2024. Moved states for a job in July 2025 and got told I wasn’t a good fit only a couple months in. Decided to work on an actual career now and I got a job at a dealership by cold calling and applying to tech schools to become a mechanic.
Anyone else who is in that mindset of “this sucks and I’m not sure how to fix this” just know there’s a way. What has happened for me may not work for everyone but that doesn’t mean you can’t find your own way. I believe in you all and I wish the best onto everyone else here. Don’t give up.
