Currently, the League uses a semi-automated system, which still requires human intervention by the VAR referee, especially when selecting the famous and controversial “frame” in which the pass occurs.

The new development will be the incorporation of a microchip inside the ball, capable of precisely detecting the exact moment the player strikes the ball—information that is cross-referenced with the players’ positions captured by special cameras installed in the stadiums.
