Hi everyone,

I am just looking for some advice from others who have been through this. I have a cat who will turn 17 in August. She’s my best friend and I’ve had her since she was born. Mom was killed and I bottle fed her and her sister who passed a few years ago.

Recently, and sort of suddenly, she starting having trouble walking. Her back legs acted like they didn’t work. I took her in as soon as I could and tried an arthritis injection. When her condition worsened, I took her back.

It is neurological and she has more difficulty walking- mostly dragging her back legs. She still gets to her food, to her water and to her little box but with difficulty. She falls or stumbles and at times falls in her water. We were given steroids as kind of a Hail Mary. The vet said by Friday they should work.

I know I will need to say goodbye soon- I just wonder when. The vet told us it’s okay to say goodbye on a good day. So I am wondering if I can hear from some of you who have done this.

I am considering saying goodbye on Friday if the steroids have not made a big improvement. I know it’s not fair to her. While she still plays and wants to cuddle with me, it’s more difficult and when we put down her sisters it was at an emergency vet and she had an awful day. I don’t want to ever do that to another pet.
