My cat has Stage 3 kidney disease. His biggest obstacle right now is weight loss and being underweight.

I know about Royal Canin and vet prescription food but at about 70 bucks for a small bag, the prices are insane. Has anyone food a good substitute to these foods that can be better than normal food for renal care but not breaking the bank?
