I just finished my fourth and final interview with the CRO for a new role at one of the largest entertainment companies in the world but the top of salary band is 20% lower than my last base pay. It’s also a level down than my last role.
I was recently laid off a month ago and have been networking hard. Got a referral in for a senior role on a new team but the base pay at the top of the band is much lower than I was getting paid before.
When applying I put the top of the band to get to the screening. During the original recruiting call they asked if I was okay with the band and I mentioned I would need to understand the total package but that the base was lower than what I was paid in the last role.
Though the 5 people I met with on the next 3 calls salary conversation never came up again.
My worry if I do get the offer even at the top of the band it will be much lower than what I’d like to make, evening match my last pay. The job has a base + commission & bonus.
If I get the offer should I try to negotiate 20% higher than the top of the band if that’s their offer? I’m actively in other final interviews for other roles but I like this one the most so far. I’d hate for the role to be rescinded if I ask for too much.
Would love some advice here
