Hi everybody,

I want to ask you for advice on how to deal with this situation.
I got an offer for an ai engineer position with a US healthcare company. In my resume I stated that I finished working with my last italian employer in January 2026, but in reality I resigned in October 2025 to move to the US.
In the next days the company will run a background check and probably this discrepancy will be flagged. I’m not sure how they’ll run the background check (maybe through HireRight , but both companies use Workday as hr system, so maybe there’s no need to go through third companies). I don’t think I can pretend it is just mistake because I’ve stated it during a conversation with the hr (the hr is from an agency), and I’m pretty sure to have said some little things (not too much remarked) during the final interview with the real employer.

Do you have some advice?
Possible option that I can see:

  1. Pretend it was a mistake hoping that the hr and the new bosses didn’t take any note (they are hiring a whole new team of other 3 new hirings).
  2. Write a sorry email to the hr, being 100% honest (I already have the offer and maybe these 3 months don’t make a difference for them).
  3. Pretend I didn’t see the mistake, fill out the background check with the correct information and hope the system to not find out about the discrepancies with my resume
  4. Fill out the background check with the uncorrect information aligned with the resume

P.s. I’d ask for recruiters and managers to identify as such in order to have the point of view from the other side
