They were cuddling.
My orange baby, Kastellow, wanted nothing to do with her sister at first. She was raised an only child (she was socialized as a kitten), and this annoying BEAST invaded her home just about a month after we moved into a new place. We always wanted her to have a companion because mine and my partner’s work takes us away from home for longer than average.
Erebus was introduced to the home a little older than we first anticipated (she had fleas when we adopted her), but has always been very intense in play. My partner’s family adopted her brother as well and they were kept together in their bathroom while we sorted the fleas out. Erebus’ brother is also very high energy and bigger so she needed to adapt and get strong to accommodate.
Kastellow has never been big (6.5 pounds), so once they were introduced, it was quite the adjustment for her being pounced by an oversized toddler constantly. Kastellow did her best to establish boundaries but Erebus was just too high energy and used to her own boundaries being ignored. Kastellow also just doesn’t have a mean bone in her body, so her humans helped to make the adjustment gradual.
Erebus is probably close to full size now, going on a year soon. They have similar frames but Erebus is a brick of clumsy muscle and Stellow is a sleek and dainty princess. The play is not nearly as one sided now. Erebus still likes to wrestle and Kastellow prefers chasing each other around. Erebus sometimes would groom Stellow in the middle of wrestling.
This though? I never thought I’d see them get along in this way. Granted, Erebus is literally blanketing Stellow’s WHOLE BODY, but she wasn’t trying to get away. It’s not a fluke either, they’ve been napping near each other more frequently ever since. If you read all of this, you’re a true trooper.
I’m just really happy. I thought it would be nice to share it with you all. :)
TL;DR: Kastellow and Erebus could not be more opposite, I never thought I’d see them snuggling and playing so well together.
