Long story short, I was let go during my probation period last month. When I started job hunting, I positioned that role as a contract (it was technically FTC), and I’ve now accepted a new offer.
During background checks, a third-party screening company asked for details. I gave:
Dates: accurate
Type: Contract
Reason for leaving: “Resigned”
Now I’m stressing about whether this might get flagged.
In interviews, no one really dug into that role it only lasted about 3 months. I know in hindsight I probably shouldn’t have included it on my CV, but that ship has sailed.
The role was with a local government organisation. I checked their reference policy they said they provide “honest feedback” depending on what the prospect employer asks, and it would go through my ex-manager.
I told the recruiter this morning. She said it’s not ideal and that I should’ve told her earlier. I explained that no one asked in detail during interviews, and I only got clarity on the reference policy after submitting my background check info.
Now I’m stuck worrying this could backfire.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? How likely is this to actually cause an issue at this stage, and is there anything I should proactively do now?
