I’ve been using pine litter pellets for my two year old male cat ever since he was a kitten. However as he got older I noticed that he’s been sometimes avoiding the litter box/more peeing outside as he got a bit older. I’ve tried two litter boxes and use litter attractive additive and it did work for a little bit until I ran out of the additive (don’t know if I should get more or not since I thought it’s supposed to be temporary until the cat is back in the litter box). I also tried to put the litter box in a more quiet part of the house too (even though most of the house is a bit on the chaotic side). Not to mention the vet said there is nothing wrong with him health wise
Any other suggestions or do I just need to take the L and try a different litter after I finish the last bag pine pellet and pee pad before new place will smell? I just like how cheap the pine pellet ($7 for a 40lbs) is and no dust/tracking. Odor control is okay, but I do scoop everyday and switch out the pad weekly with a litter box wash every two weeks.
Note: I did just move for the first time (not the house I’ve mentioned earlier) with my cat and only have one littler box right now and cat is secluded in one area right now. I tried to let him explore while I was asleep and he peed on one of my camping/folding chairs with clothes and stuff on there… During the time I am home I do try to let him explore on his own. Also have been thinking about this a while before moving too.
TL;DR:
My 2-year-old male cat has used pine pellet litter since kittenhood, but avoiding the litter box more. Tried multiple boxes, attractant (worked temporarily), and quieter placement. Just moved to a new place and currently using one box while he’s adjusting—he already peed on a chair once. I like pine pellets for cost and low dust, but wondering if I should switch litter or try something else to fix the behavior before the new place starts smelling. The vet said he is fine too.
