TL;DR What advice would someone give regarding getting a 2nd cat for company for a large female cat who’s not vicious but quite saucy. Humans are home a lot but cat has separation anxiety.

We adopted our cat coming up two years ago. She is a really big cat, but she has separation anxiety quite bad. We are home a lot with her but she does seem to get quite antsy when she knows we’re going out. She’s about three now.

I thought to adopt a 2nd cat for company for her. She’s a large cat but not thick. She measures about 24 inches long but that’s not when she’s fully stretched out even. She’s grown a bit since we got her.

Getting to my question. What would be the best approach to introduce a new cat? Is there an age that would be better suited? Does it matter what the gender of the cat is?
