Youtuber KDH breaks down a string of legal issues, with some telling quotes from recent court filings. What do y’all think?
I think its bullshit that Gibson’s business plan is to sue any competitors that they can out of business instead of, I don’t know, improving their own products?
As well as over charging out the ass for the logo on the headstock.
For sure. They’re kind of stuck with not being able to get too creative with their classic lineup. Offering more options for hardware is really all anybody would want for your Les Pauls and SGs, for example. Law suits like this aren’t going to make people go and buy the Gibson. So a company in a position like Gibson, where they feel the need to protect copyright and trade dress, another option would be to have bought Dean so they would have a brand name that can be differentiated from their classic lineup.
That’s what Fender did when it bought Charvel. If you want something modern, get a Charvel, if you want something vintage there’s Fender.
Gibson have sort of done wlthatbwith Kramer, but they’re not able to use that to make modern LP’s like ESP and the like do.
Epiphone…
They certainly do have more room to play with Epiphone, but after the Inspired by line it’s more like Squire than Charvel.
Pity. They made good stuff. I dunno if they still do, though. I would rather buy a Dean back in the day that a Gibson Studio model.
