so I know a recruiter for a small hospitality brand. I reached out because they had a role I was interested in posted and I more than qualify by the letter of the JD. sent in my app, emailed/linkedin’d the recruiter and thought I’d at least hear back. (this brand really tries to sell themselves as a holistic team-forward hotel chain that values their employees with sabbatical benefits, etc). After a month, and no response from the recruiter or even a tbnt email I see the role reposted. I reached out again, turns out the hiring manager wants someone with exactly 7 years of experience in a segment of the market of which I have 3. So apparently they are content to let this senior role sit empty for months, leading into their busy season… the amount of experience gained in 3 years is not light-years behind what you’d gain in 7 for this particular segment. it’s upsetting that recruiters these days just sit back and go with the hiring manager’s silly expectations instead of trying to sell their applicants.
