I just want to warn other cat owners about the risk of injection site sarcoma. I had never heard of it until my always healthy cat developed a 5 cm mass at the site of her feline leukemia vaccine. It has been a very horrible 6 weeks. She was only vaccinated 3 times in her almost 15 year life. The last round caused this cancer. I wish I never got her these vaccines as she was an indoor cat who didn’t go outside or interact with other animals. If you do need to get the vaccines I would suggest asking if your vet could do it near the tail. So if this occurs they can amputate easier.

Since we noticed the mass she has been to the vet a million more times than the rest of her life. I wish I never biopsied the mass because now it has become a non healing ulcerated wound.

I feel the end is coming rapidly. The mass is too close to her pelvis to get clean margins and I don’t want to put her through anything else. Radiation is not in my price range and I don’t really trust the vets at this point. Every intervention has caused more problems.

This is just all so sad cause she was literally picture of health before. Just wanting to educate people.

Also the vaccine companies are well aware of the risk. They may be paying a “good will” gesture for some of my cats expenses but isn’t official yet. Please keep good records of your vaccines.
