On Tuesday, during the trial examining the circumstances surrounding her father’s death in 2020, Diego Maradona’s daughter, Gianinna, accused the medical team that had been caring for the Argentine football legend during the final weeks of his life of “completely manipulating” the family.
“It was a complete and horrific manipulation; I feel like an idiot,” said Gianinna, 36, referring in particular to three of the defendants on trial in San Isidro, near Buenos Aires, for potentially fatal negligence. “I trusted these three people, and all they did was manipulate us and leave my son without a grandfather.”
Seven medical professionals (a doctor, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, and nurses) are on trial for their possible responsibility in the death of Diego Maradona, who died at age 60 from a cardiorespiratory arrest and pulmonary edema, alone in his bed at a rented residence, where he was recovering after uncomplicated neurosurgery.
