So uhhh my roommate left her pregnant cat when she left, and her and my other cat have grown exceptionally close in the last year. To the point where I’ve believed they’ve been what I think the term is “bonded pair”?? But long story short, June (mama cat) gave birth yesterday morning to a litter of 4. A few hours later, June is roaming the house (I assume taking a small break from the kittens) and mia is all over her, cleaning and grooming her. I was a bit surprised June let her, given I figured she’d be a bit territorial or grumpy against mia. I leave for work today, leaving June and the kittens upstairs and mia downstairs- about an hour ago I find mia inside Junes box upstairs cuddled up with her and the kittens and it seems like June doesn’t have a problem with it at all.
I saw mia what looked to be trying to scruff one of the newborns and got a bit worried and moved her from the box. Is this reason to be alarmed? It seems like they’re almost co-parenting the new kittens. A few minutes later one of the kittens started crying and mia ran back to the box to check in on them.
June doesn’t seem to be territorial or aggressive towards mia at all, even welcoming her. I just worry about when I’m at work, mia accidentally hurting a kitten or June suddenly being upset with it.
