I keep seeing people argue about whether AI hiring tools are biased.
That’s not even the part that feels broken anymore.
What’s actually happening is something weirder:
Candidates are using AI to optimize resumes.
Companies are using AI to filter resumes.
So you end up with two systems talking to each other before any human ever gets involved.
It’s not really “you” applying anymore. It’s a version of you that’s been shaped to pass a filter.
And on the other side, it’s not really a hiring manager evaluating you. It’s a scoring system deciding if you’re worth being seen. Even when a human finally looks, they’re often looking at something that’s already been optimized for the system, not the person.
So the whole thing turns into a game of: Who’s better at producing the right signals for a machine. Not who’s actually better for the job.
People keep asking: “How do I beat ATS?”
But the real question is: What happens when everyone is optimizing for the same system?
Because at that point, you’re not competing on skill anymore.
You’re competing on how well you can simulate what the system wants to see.
And yeah… that starts to feel a little hollow.
