I want to start by prefacing, I know the job market is really bad right now, and to not put all your hope into one basket, and to keep applying. That said, it’s still really frustrating how humanity has been sidelined in the current job market. Ghosting candidates has been so normalised these days, it’s basically the norm and anything out of that the exception, and if you try pointing it out a crowd of ppl appear out literal thin air to let you know how spoilt you are for asking for feedback and that you should keep applying until one day the corporate overlords smile upon you, might be tmr, might be 5hrs from now, might be after 6,7,8, interviews, it doesn’t matter, just keep applying until sth happens, and don’t be naive. I’ve heard this rhetoric so often, but it still gets me so riled up, recruiters, hiring managers, that is their work(is it not?) Why keep talking to someone, interview them, then just ghost entirely? If you have too much on your plate they’re automated systems you could put in place. I know this is biased cmg from personal experience, but atp, 2 months after my interview, I loathe my hiring manager who one month ago after telling me they’re in the final stages of consolidation, then went quiet. I’d have appreciated the basic decency to know that the role was put on hold(as I learnt from my colleague), and even when I did, I politely asked my recruiter to just be frank with me if the role is filled, put on hold, or they already have a preferred candidate, that was just so I could plan my time and resources better. I’ve never complained about ATS, or AI replacing jobs, at the end of the day, it’s the sad world we live in, but as an adult professional leaving someone aloof about a process your in charge of is genuinely, a bit inhumane.
