Hello all, I’ve got some questions about introducing my cats. I’ve had a lot of cats over the years, I’ve done many introductions before and I know all about sight and scent swapping. I’ve been doing that with these two for the last few weeks.
For reference the void is my resident girl and the blue is the new boy. Blue is very social, we’ve been keeping them separated for a few weeks. Void is shy and fearful, we initially had her and her sister so she has been around other cats but her sister passed away unexpectedly and she’s been alone for the last year. She’s on anti anxiety meds now, but she’s still such a high strung and fearful girl. Blue just wants to play and be her friend. Nothing about either of their body language or posture tells me they’re looking for violence.
But it seems every time I try and let them have some sight time this is the result. Void will hiss and growl sometimes, and then turn around and roll on the floor with her belly up right beside him. He does the same thing so I mean their postures are both pretty relaxed. No one’s tail is puffed up, no arching backs, nothing indicating a real fight is coming. I just worry the void is so fearful she might lash out unexpectedly.
I am prepared for a very long and drawn out introduction for them, months if that’s what it takes. I guess my questions are, do you think based on this that there’s any reason not to keep trying with them? Even if I can get to a point of them simply tolerating the other’s existence that’s a win for me. Does anything about the description of their interactions and this video show they wouldn’t ever be able to cohabitate to a degree?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts or replies.
Wednesday the void and Laszlo the blue send their thanks too.
