I applied for a software engineering apprenticeship with Avenade. A recruiter reached out to me personally, was really friendly, and invited me to a short Teams screening call to get to know me better.

The call seemed to go fine. He even said if I had any questions, feel free to email him.

Since then… nothing.

I emailed once asking what the next assessment stage would involve, then later sent a polite follow-up asking if there were any updates. No reply to either email.

The portal still says Application Under Review, but I’ve heard absolutely nothing while the next stage is supposed to be getting closer.

I’m mainly frustrated by the silence more than anything. If it’s a no, just tell me.

Is this normal these days? Does this usually mean you’re a backup candidate, or just dealing with bad communication?
