Being told that ‘it’s not you; the job market is just really tough right now’ is well-intended and sincere (most of the time), but it’s becoming less comforting and more infuriating.
I’ve had my resume checked and revised multiple times, I’ve become acquainted with talent acquisition specialists, I’ve sent follow-up emails, I continually tailor my cover letters and add to my portfolio.
Only thing I haven’t done is print off my resume and walk into businesses on the fly, which worked for all of our boomer parents. But we all know that is a fruitless tactic nowadays.
If I knew that I was doing something wrong, or that I could improve something, I could take action rather than feel like a hopeless beggar waiting for a crumb of consideration from hiring managers.
