I was just browsing and I found this, thought it was worth posting

They sell headshots for $60 each (or $35 at scale), but pay retouchers $5 per image. Before you even get a shot at the job, you’re required to complete an unpaid test project.

Then you look at the expectations: around 20 headshots per day. That’s roughly 20 minutes per image if you’re working a full day.

So their “hand-edited to perfection” product is actually being rushed through at volume while they pocket most of the margin. Tf

And of course, the candidate is expected to do free work upfront just to prove themselves. And they also need to have already invested in hardware and software bc they wont provide it.

I get that the role is targeting Mexico, but this doesn’t feel like a regional pay difference. It just feels like how much value they can extract before someone burns out. Nothing like being asked to work for free so you can maybe earn $5 per task later.

Is this normal now or just especially bad?
