We are currently trying a foster to adopt situation with a 3 year old female cat. We picked her because when we were at the shelter she climbed into my youngest’s lap. She really wanted a cat that loves her and chooses her. Our current cat isn’t mean at all just doesn’t have an interest in cuddling with her and prefers my husband. This cat was very cuddly the first week and is now just aloof and would rather be in a room laying down by herself.
She is currently on kitty Prozac because she stress grooms and has bald spots from it. She also has not been pooping in her litter box and the Vet thought that the Prozac would help with that.
After a couple weeks of following the Jackson Galaxy method she gets along with our other cat, but still hates the dog. Our dog doesn’t care at all about her, but since the cat growls and stalks the dog, our dog is now frightened of both cats and hides in bedrooms.
We have one more week in our trial period to determine whether she is a good fit for our home. I’m looking for advice on the following:
a) how to get her to poop in the litter box. I don’t want to be cleaning up cat shit for all eternity
b) Would the Prozac cause her to be less cuddly and more solitary?
c) how long does it take for the new cat to not hate our dog.
We want to have a household where all the animals are happy and not stressed because it isn’t fair to any of them.
