yesterday morning i brought my older cat to the vet for her yearly checkup. they put a towel over her to let her hide since she was a little scared. when we brought her home, my younger cat was acting a little strange towards her, following her around everywhere and smelling her. at this point they were completely fine and still pretty normal. i left the house to eat lunch and came back to my older cat hiding in my bedroom’s window behind the curtains and completely scared (she pooped and peed on the window).

my guess is that my younger cat kept following my older cat around to smell her (because of the towel they put over her) and the older cat did not like that and is now hissing and batting and making really mad scary sounds when the younger cat is around her. i’ve separated them and now keep my younger cat in my bedroom to let my older cat wander around (because when she is kept in a room separated from the house she gets very scared and will just hide under the bed the whole time).

i just tried “reintroducing” briefly by holding my younger cat so the older cat sees her but she just hissed and growled at her from several feet away so now they’re separated again. my mom also put things that smell like each cat with the cats but i don’t know if that’s helping at all. i’m really scared and worried my older cat will never be friendly to my younger cat again and i just don’t know what to do!!! my older cat has always been the dominate cat anyways but they got along just fine and would play together and could exist together but now…… please does anyone have any advice???
