Applied for a role listed I was really excited for, which was fully remote, and a great fit for my background.
Recruiter sets up the first call. I prep, show up ready.
First thing she says is “quick update”. That the salary is now $35k lower than the posting, the role is no longer remote, and that there would be no relocation support either (the job is across the country from me).
So basically a completely different role than what I applied for.
I told her (politely) that for that position that comp is well below market, even before expecting relocation to be out of pocket. It’s especially worse as the local cost-of-living for where the job is now on site is one of the highest in the US. I still finished the interview to be professional.
At the end she asks if the comp would affect my interest. I said yes, it would be very difficult to accept what they are offering.
Just frustrating. Would have saved everyone time if they were upfront about it before scheduling interviews.
