Hey y’all I had a strange experience with my rover pet sitter, wanted to know your thoughts.
Basically I planned a vacation and needed a pet sitter for about 5 days for my 6 year old dog & 5 month old kitty.
My dog did good overall but this is is more about my cat miko.
When I booked the sitter she had overall good reviews, I was under the impression that it was just the lady and maybe one kid in the house. It was actually her & 2 small toddlers & her older daughter.
We get there to drop off the pets & they were very nice but first thing I notice is the kids…they immediately are trying to get miko to get out the cat carrier and using the wand toys to get his attention, the mom tells them very gently to stop and let him come out on his own. Miko eventually comes out and starts sniffing and they continue to follow him around & put the toys in his face…now miko is very social & not fearful but I could tell he was uncomfortable.
Fast forward to us leaving, I decide to send a text to the sitter just kind of asking to please be careful with the kids & the cat & she said yes of course don’t worry I will treat him like my own, they were just exited… I was ok also keep in mind they only paid attention to miko not my dog.
During the first day we had a bit of a scare on my end when I remembered that miko had actually not pooped that day, it was 6pm and he he still hadn’t pooped or peed at the sitter & I was getting really worried bc he is a boy. Eventually he did go & I was relieved.
During my trip I got very little updates, I would have to text her every time to get pics. I think bc I told her I was ok vacation she wanted us to “relax” but I would of really appreciated more updates.
Fast forward to us picking up the pets, we get there my dog super exited. Red flag number 1 the sitter tells me Miko didn’t eat his dinner (he always eats). I find Miko by the window & he smells me and nudges but he doesn’t seem like himself, I pick him up & he was almost low energy just holding on to me.
I go to start picking up the bags & look back and see the little girl grabbing my cat off the couch by his upper arms/neck…I immediately go to her and try to grab him and say be careful & Miko literally just as in shock his head was tilted back, ears back & body tense then he ran under the couch. Then the little girl tries to get him from under the couch…not gonna lie that freaked me out in the moment I wanted to tell the sitter but it was time to go anyway so I didn’t.
But in that moment I knew, he was most likely being treated like that the whole time by these kids & was extremely stressed. I feel terrible. Fast forward to us getting home I thought he might be mad at me for a while but no right when we got home he instantly seemed happier & stress free. I just can’t believe she had such good reviews with other cats on her page with those kids!! I knew I had a bad feeling when I left.
