I am taking a young stray cat to be spayed and since she is easily handled I can take her in a carrier. The vet said she will need to have a cone on and recommended keeping her inside for two weeks. Unfortunately, I live in a super tiny house and my own cat hates other cats. Just having strays outside has stressed her out so much she has lost weight.
So I am trying to do right by both cats. I have a catio on wheels with three levels (plastic removable pans on each level). She will have cone on when she comes home. Could I keep her inside the catio for two days? Or does it have to be longer?
I am looking at the catio and it looks safe for a cone but does worry me a bit.
I am at a total loss what else to do. There is no way I can keep her inside for two weeks.
Plus I have two more to take to get spayed and they will need to be trapped. Do you keep them in the trap after spaying? Would they have a cone also? The vet refers to the ones needing to be in a trap as community cats so I am not sure the normal procedure for them. I would not be able to easily handle them so I am concerned even getting the cone off.
Then one last question. What basic immunizations should I get for them while they are at the vet? And possibly flea protection?
Thank you for any advice. I did dog rescue for a decade and I’ve rescued some cats but this is my first experience dealing with logistics for spaying.
