Tonight we had to put down one of our cats. It all happened so goddamn fast and I’m just plain heartbroken.
So this morning one of our cats didn’t want to eat dry food, so we gave her wet food and then she went about her day. When it came time for their afternoon meal, she plainly just didn’t want to eat and just went to take a nap. We thought that was odd but just thought she had a stomach bug and she just needed some gastrointestinal safe food. At some point she threw up completely undigested food. So, we then went to try to get her to eat. But, when I brought her to the living room, she had no strength in her paws, her breathing was strange and my sister took her straight to the vet.
There, they ran some tests. After they ran an ultrasound, they told us it’s either her lungs or her heart. They then told my sister to go home (it was already 12AM) and that they’d update us within an hour.
Then, around 2AM we got the most heartbreaking call of my life. They told us that she has a problem with her heart and that there was nothing they could do. Anything they did would’ve just prolonged her suffering for a few hours, maybe a day. So, we made the tough call, and after getting to the vet, we said our goodbyes, gave our chunky girl one last cuddle and she went to take a nap one last time.
My baby is gone, I can’t pet her anymore, she can’t annoy me when I’m studying anymore, she can’t take up half the bed when we’re going to sleep anymore. As I’m writing this, I look up at her favorite spot and she’s not there.
I’ll miss you, forever and always.
