My cat Olive (1 year old neutered male cat) was adopted in July last year. I adopted Cece (1 year old female spayed) along with Olive. He was always a skittish cat - the shelter said that he is semi-feral. He hid under the couch for the first week and used Cece as his emotional support. After a year, he has opened up a lot. He walks around the house and vocalizes. He asks for pets sometimes. But he is not comfortable. He is always on his toes around us. He does not like it when we walk near him. He does not like being picked up. He used to play fight with his sisters, but now he has been bullying them. He runs after them and beats them even if they aren’t playing. I have to clap my hands to distract him so his weaker sisters can run away and hide. I figured that he is using his anxiety to control his environment by bullying his sisters. We have had Feliway Optimum in our small apartment for the last 4 months and it has helped in introducing new kittens to the house but has not helped with Olive. He has been with us for 9 months. He is scared of the front door opening, the doorbell ringing, the automatic feeder turning on, the office chair moving, the bus stopping under our apartment window, the vacuum running in the building hallway, us walking from under his high cat perch (8 feet in the air - I am 5 feet), us walking into the same room as him. We have tried calming bites, feliway and time. Do you guys have any advice before we go to the vet to ask for medication? Have you had any positive experiences with Prozac? Have you had any progress with alternate methods?
