To set the picture, my home is a 3 stories narrow typical asian urban house. The 3rd floor leads to an open area we use for hanging the clothes after laundry. Aside from the window which we keep lock almost all the time, there shouldnt be any noticable gap. I need to iterate that we absolutely cannot take in a pet with our available living space.

Earlier this morning my mom found a stray kitten on the 2-3rd floor stairs, around 3 weeks old based on how it can walk a little bit but unbalanced. She also heard an adult cat meowing somewhere. Currently she’s leaving the cat in a box (which we later found out it can climb out, and hid under the cupboard we use as the ancestral altar). We wanted to leave the kitten outside, but afraid the kitten wouldn’t survive the harsh sunlight on the 3rd floor balcony area.

Currently it should be near sundown (I’m not at home, it’s my parents) and my mom still hear the adult cat meowing, we are at quite a loss what to do, since we never have pet before and idk what would the kitten even eat for the meantime. Especially at the possibility that the adult cat is hiding somewhere in our home.

I would like to reiterate that we don’t have space for a pet, and with our work scheduling also in absolutely no shape to take care of a pet. Should we leave the kitten out to the balcony hoping the mom cat would grab it? What if the kitten climb off the balcony? What if the momma cat is hiding in our home? Need advice desperately soon.
