This little orange kitten came to me a few days ago because a neighbor thought it was a good idea to take in a kitten “to see if I wanted it,” since her daughter loves cats but they have a pitbull. I already have five cats who came to me from different situations on the street, so at the time I told her I couldn’t because I’m a single person living in a not very big house. But I agreed to take him in for a few days to care for him because he was obviously still very small (around 5 weeks old) and wouldn’t be safe with the dog.

The family tells me they’ve already found another family that will take him in, one that has cats, but I’ve already grown attached. My sister says I should keep him because my oldest cat is “already living on borrowed time” (she’s 20 years old).

I know six cats is too many, and I worry about what would happen to them if something were to happen to me, but I’m also really worried about not knowing whether his new family will actually be responsible. There are a lot of bad people in the world.

Any tips on how to let him go without feeling so anxious?
