I built my very first cat tree completely from scratch – starting with a tree that had already been cut down on my family’s property, so no new tree had to be felled. The trunks were debarked, sanded, oiled, and mounted onto a 60×60 cm kitchen countertop base. The platforms are made from 18 mm multiplex plywood, and the top features a 35 cm acrylic bowl as a sleeping spot.
The trunks are wrapped with sisal rope, the platforms are covered with carpet, and I added some fake ivy for aesthetics (real ivy is toxic to cats). The tree is about 2.5 m tall and additionally secured to the wall.
I had almost no woodworking experience before this, but I’m really happy with how it turned out.
The cats accepted it immediately and love the high lookout spot 😄
The pictures show a small making-of of the build.
