I’ve been buying the Fresh Step Crystal litter since adopting my cat 4.5 years ago. I like the blue crystals, he seems happy with it, and most importantly, there is no smell (which is key because I live in a small apartment).

The issue I have is that the bag is marked 8#, but around six months ago, I noticed that the unopened bag I bought felt light. I popped the bag onto my kitchen scale and it weighed 5.5#. Huh. I thought there must have been a calibration mistake in the factory. I know my scale is accurate, I check it constantly because I use it for baking.

I’ve weighed the last six bags I’ve purchased and in every case, the weight was under 6#, which is leading me to believe this might not be accidental. If shorting the bags is not accidental, the mfg is essentially making nearly double the price on every bag. I’m paying about $22 for “8 pounds”.

Posting here because I am wondering if anyone else has run into this? I really like the product but would be open to change if I knew what was most similar.
