I recently moved into to a new home (a two story house for the first time) and after 2 months I woke up one morning to my cat up here. I thought that maybe I had moved a chair too close to the the wall of the small space up stairs (it’s like a small living room) but no even without furniture she gets up there by jumping which feels a lot more dangerous than having a stair case of some sort for her to easily climb rather than jumping and running the danger of overshooting it. I was thinking about locking the stair case but it’s a cat, they can jump over most gates and even then the stair case is frequently used by us. The best thing i have so far is just making her get down with a toy or even treats, of course thats just temporary 5 minutes later she’s up there again. I want to trust cat instincts being smart enough to not say “let’s jump from here” but every time I see her up there it makes me nervous is there a way I can discourage her from using this spot as her hang out spot?
